Fillers & Injectables Q&A

What are injectables?

Cosmetic injectables are substances that Dr. Aguirre DO delivers into the skin to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, folds, and facial creases. Injectable treatments are safe, minimally invasive solutions to wrinkles and other signs of aging. Injectables can boost your appearance and promote younger-looking skin without surgery or downtime.

What types of injectables are available?

Fillers are a type of injectable that plump up wrinkles and folds. Neuromodulators are also injectables that treat facial lines. While fillers and neuromodulators address the same concerns, they target different types of wrinkles:

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers, such as Juvederm® and Radiesse®, add volume to the skin with viscous substances, such as hyaluronic acid (HA). They fill in static wrinkles, which develop as your skin loses its supportive volume with age. These lines tend to appear in the lower part of the face. Common static wrinkles and areas of lost volume include:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Hollow temples
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Jowls
  • Depressions under the eyes

Along with treating wrinkles, fillers can also add fullness to the lips, contour the cheekbones, and rejuvenate the hands.

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators, like Botox® and Xeomin®, smooth wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscles underneath them. Neuromodulators interfere with the nerve signals that control muscle movement. When the muscle can’t contract, the skin softens.

Neuromodulators effectively treat dynamic wrinkles, which form from repeated expression. Common dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines (between the eyebrows)
  • Bunny lines (on the nose)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Vertical lip lines

Most dynamic wrinkles develop in the upper one-third of the face, particularly on the forehead and around the eyes.

How long do injectables last?

Some injectables last for a few months, while others continue delivering visible improvements for a year or longer*. Botox, Xeomin, and other neuromodulators typically wear off within three to four months.

Juvederm can plump up your skin for up to 12 months. Radiesse is a collagen stimulator, meaning it can continue tightening and firming your skin even after it dissipates.

Injectables can minimize the appearance of wrinkles and boost volume in the skin without surgery or downtime. If you’re ready to rejuvenate your appearance, call Genesis Health and Beauty Bar or schedule an appointment online today.
